Experience & Approach
A Hybrid in Action

I have 14 years of production-based experience*, primarily as a hybrid website designer and front-end developer. In the last 4 years, I’ve honed in on leading a team of developers and designers, while leaning into audience research, website analytics, information architecture, and wireframes—a holistic user experience.
*My gateway to graphic design and the web started when I was 16 years old. Geocities, anyone?! Macromedia Fireworks?! But, I confess: I didn’t actually know what I was doing in 2004.

My Guiding Principles
If my work approach had a Spotify Wrapped, these would be my top 3 considerations.

01
Research & Info Architecture
Not what we think, but what audiences want.
That’s correct: starting with what audiences want before introducing them to what we think they need keeps them from turning right around when they don’t see what they expect. From there, clear pathways can be smoothed out for even the most complex architectures. We can bring our expertise alongside real-time data to make recommendations, but real answers come from the audience.
02
Semantics & Best Practices
Longevity & stability begin with “vanilla.”
Websites don’t succeed or fail based on tech trends like React or Tailwind. These tools serve a purpose, but accessibility, search engine optimization, and consistent design systems all start with a foundational understanding of HTML5, CSS, and consideration of when to interject JavaScript to improve the user experience and functionality.
03
Team Lead & Advocate
Team members need clear pathways, too.
I’ve seen enough team friction through the years to spot the warning signs early. I’ve worked in all phases and roles of a website project to anticipate team needs, helping them work efficiently and meaningfully. I’ve witnessed the designer-developer stand-offs and know how to ward them off. I have empathy for account managers on the front lines with clients. Empathy, empowerment, and respect power teams to finish lines feeling satisfied with the end product, and their contributions to get there. (Increased profits from smooth collaboration doesn’t hurt, either.)
